You’re never too young for an eye test!
Good eyesight is every child’s passport to the future, yet it’s easy for parents to think there’s nothing wrong with their child’s sight, not realising that vision can change quickly as young eyes develop. That’s why annual eye examinations for children are recommended. The earlier a problem is detected, the greater chances of it being corrected. So even if nothing appears to be wrong, it’s important to make sure your child has a sight test at least once a year.
The NHS offers free eye examinations to all children under 16, and those aged from 16 to 18 in full time education. Children within this age bracket will also receive an NHS optical voucher which can be used towards the cost their glasses. You will find that our practices offer a wide range of attractive styles specially designed for young faces. These frames are completely FREE of charge with an NHS voucher and will be fitted by a member off staff to ensure that they are comfortable for your child and provide them with their best possible vision. Many frames also have soft nose pads for extra comfort and spring hinges for added strength.

First Eye Test:
It is recommended that your child have an eye examination before their third birthday. However, if there is any family history of eye problems, or you have any concerns regarding your child’s vision, we would advise that you make an appointment as soon as possible. That way any problems can be discovered and delt with prior to your child starting school.
No child is ever too young for an eye examination. It doesn’t matter if your child is too young to talk or read a letter chart. Our qualified Optometrists can use a range of techniques and modern equipment to detect visual problems at any age. You are also encouraged to be present during the eye examination and to ask any questions you may have about your child’s vision.
Did you know ?
1 in 5 school children have an undetected eye problem and 80% of a child’s learning occurs visually. Therefore, if a child has poor vision they will find it difficult to learn at school and reach their full potential. Without early treatment, vision defects such as 'lazy eye' can become permanent disabilities. Regular eye examinations could be crucial for your child’s healthcare and personal development.
